Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Granulated sugar
  • Unsalted butter
  • Eggs
  • Milk or dairy-free milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Valentine’s sprinkles or heart decorations (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in half of the dry ingredients, then the milk, followed by the remaining dry ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool completely before frosting.
  9. Beat butter with powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make frosting, then color if desired.
  10. Frost and decorate with Valentine’s toppings.

Notes

Use room-temperature ingredients for best results. Allow cupcakes to cool fully before frosting to keep the buttercream smooth and stable.
