Description
This hearty slow cooker spaghetti sauce is rich, flavorful, and incredibly easy to make. Let your slow cooker do the work while you enjoy a thick, aromatic sauce perfect for pasta nights!
Ingredients
- 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage (optional)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 celery stalk, chopped
- 2 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup red wine or 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
Instructions
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown the ground beef or sausage until cooked through. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sautรฉ for 3โ4 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Transfer the cooked mixture to your slow cooker.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs, sugar, salt, pepper, and wine or vinegar if using. Stir gently to combine.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6โ8 hours or HIGH for 3โ5 hours, stirring once or twice during cooking.
- For a thicker sauce, remove the lid during the last hour to let excess moisture evaporate.
- Taste and adjust seasoning before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley.
- Serve over pasta, use as a lasagna sauce, or spread over pizza dough.
Notes
This sauce freezes beautifullyโstore in airtight containers for up to 3 months. For a vegetarian version, skip the meat and add mushrooms or lentils. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
