Ingredients

For the Sushi Rice:

  • 1 cup sushi rice
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Filling:

  • 4 oz fresh salmon (sushi-grade)
  • ½ avocado, sliced
  • ½ cucumber, julienned
  • 1 tbsp cream cheese (optional)

For Rolling:

  • 2 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

For Serving:

  • Soy sauce
  • Pickled ginger
  • Wasabi

Instructions

1. Prepare the Sushi Rice

 

 

 

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Cook the rice with water in a rice cooker or pot. Let it cool slightly.
  3. Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, then gently fold into the rice.

2. Prepare the Salmon & Vegetables

 

 

 

  1. Slice the salmon into thin strips.
  2. Cut the avocado into thin slices.
  3. Julienne the cucumber into thin matchsticks.

3. Assemble the Roll

 

 

 

  1. Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat.
  2. Spread an even layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving 1 inch at the top edge.
  3. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the rice (optional).

4. Add the Fillings

 

 

 

  1. Lay the salmon, avocado, and cucumber along the bottom edge of the rice.
  2. Add a thin layer of cream cheese if desired.

5. Roll the Sushi

 

 

 

  1. Use the bamboo mat to gently roll the sushi, pressing firmly but not too hard.
  2. Seal the edge by moistening it with a little water.

6. Slice & Serve

 

 

 

  1. Use a sharp knife to cut the roll into 6-8 pieces.
  2. Wipe the knife with a wet towel between cuts for clean slices.
  3. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.

Notes

Use sushi-grade salmon to ensure safety.
Dip your fingers in water while handling rice to prevent sticking.
Chill the rolls for 5 minutes before slicing for neater cuts.
