Description
A quick, buttery holiday treat made with Ritz crackers, homemade toffee, and a smooth layer of melted chocolate—ready in under 30 minutes and perfect for gifting, cookie trays, or cozy winter snacking.
Ingredients
- Base Layer:
- Ritz crackers (about 45–50, enough to cover a 10×15-inch pan)
- Toffee Layer:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- Chocolate Layer:
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (or milk/dark/white chocolate)
- Optional Toppings:
- Chopped pecans or almonds
- Festive sprinkles
- Flaky sea salt
- Crushed peppermint
- Mini marshmallows
- White chocolate drizzle
Instructions
- Prep the pan: Line a rimmed 10×15-inch baking sheet with foil or parchment. Arrange Ritz crackers in a tight, single layer.
- Make toffee: In a saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar. Bring to a full boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for exactly 3 minutes, stirring throughout.
- Assemble: Immediately pour hot toffee over crackers and spread evenly with a spatula.
- Bake: Place in a 350°F (177°C) oven for 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Add chocolate: Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over hot toffee. Let sit 2–3 minutes, then spread melted chocolate into an even layer.
- Top: Add desired toppings (nuts, sprinkles, sea salt, etc.) before chocolate sets.
- Cool & break: Let cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate to speed up. Break into rustic pieces.
Notes
- Stir the toffee mixture constantly to prevent graininess or burning.
- Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan for even heating.
- Work quickly after pouring toffee—it sets fast.
- Let cool fully before breaking to keep the chocolate layer intact.
- Store in an airtight container with parchment between layers.
