Description
Juicy, flavorful mini sandwiches layered with deli meats, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes inside crusty bread brushed with olive oil and vinegar. Perfect for parties or picnics!
Ingredients
- 1 large loaf crusty bread (French or Italian style)
- 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided (or mayonnaise/mustard)
- 6–8 slices ham (or turkey for a lighter version)
- 6–8 slices salami (optional)
- 6–8 slices provolone, Swiss, or mozzarella cheese
- 2–3 tomatoes, sliced
- 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1–2 tablespoons vinegar (red wine or white wine vinegar)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Slice bread in half horizontally and hollow out some of the soft interior to create space for fillings.
- Brush both halves with 2 tablespoons olive oil or your chosen condiment.
- Layer ham, salami, and cheese on the bottom half.
- Add sliced tomatoes and shredded lettuce on top of the cheese.
- Drizzle remaining olive oil and vinegar, then season with salt and pepper.
- Place the top half on, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Slice into wedges or mini portions and serve chilled or at room temperature.
Notes
Use crusty bread for best results. Wrap tightly and chill before serving to let flavors blend. Great make-ahead recipe for parties, picnics, or game days.
