Description

This Classic Chocolate Mousse Recipe Made Simple delivers a smooth, airy texture and deep chocolate flavor using straightforward steps and quality ingredients for an elegant yet approachable dessert.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz dark chocolate, finely chopped (about 70 percent cocoa)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated and at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream, cold
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Melt dark chocolate and butter together over gently simmering water until smooth, then let cool slightly.
  2. Whisk egg yolks into the warm chocolate mixture one at a time until glossy.
  3. Beat egg whites with salt until soft peaks form, then gradually add sugar and continue beating to soft-medium peaks.
  4. Whip cold heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  5. Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture to lighten it.
  6. Carefully fold in the whipped egg whites in two additions until just combined.
  7. Spoon mousse into serving dishes, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.

Notes

Fold gently to keep the mousse light and airy. Chill sufficiently for the best texture and flavor.
