Description

Tender beef, crisp broccoli, and a glossy savory sauce come together in one pan for a fast, fresh dinner that tastes even better than takeout.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 pounds flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, optional
  • Sliced green onions, optional

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain.
  2. Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and water.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet and cook the beef in batches until just browned, then remove.
  4. Add broccoli to the skillet and cook until bright green and crisp tender.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over the top.
  6. Simmer briefly until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish if desired.
  8. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

Slice the beef very thin and cook quickly over high heat to keep it tender and juicy.
