Ingredients
- Ground beef (80/20)
- Crushed saltine crackers or plain breadcrumbs
- Milk
- Italian seasoning
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Optional pinch of cayenne pepper
- All-purpose flour (for dredging)
- Olive oil or neutral cooking oil
- Condensed cream of mushroom soup
- Milk (for gravy)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a large baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, crushed crackers, 1 cup milk, Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
- Shape mixture into thick oval or round patties.
- Place flour in a shallow dish and lightly dredge each patty.
- Heat oil in a skillet and sear patties 2–3 minutes per side until golden.
- Transfer patties to the baking dish.
- Whisk condensed cream of mushroom soup with 1 cup milk.
- Pour gravy mixture over patties.
- Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until bubbling.
- Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, avoid overmixing the meat and don’t skip the searing step for added flavor.
